(Motorsport-Total.com) – Formula 1 is at the center of a curious crime: Unknown persons hijacked an entire truck and made off with loot that should last for the world’s longest coffee break: 413.793 KitKat bars in Formula 1 design have disappeared without a trace.

A total of twelve tons of chocolate were on their way from central Italy to Poland when the truck and its cargo disappeared from the radar without a trace. On board was the brand-new F1 collection, including the first chocolate miniature racing cars with a crispy filling.
A spokesperson for Nestle takes the matter with gallows humor and commented to The Athletic and AFP: “We have always encouraged people: Have a break. But it seems as if the thieves took this message a bit too literally and committed a break-in.”
“Even if we appreciate the excellent taste of the criminals, the fact remains that cargo theft is an ever-growing problem for companies of all sizes,” he continues.
KitKat has already informed its partners about the theft; the stolen bars are identifiable via unique batch codes. This leaves the cargo thieves only with the option of selling them on the black market – or a high-calorie, personal, and above all, longer pit stop.

As amusing as the idea of a warehouse full of chocolate racing cars may be, the incident has a serious background. According to experts, well-organized raids on goods flows in Europe are increasing massively.
In this context, KitKat refers to a recent report by the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) and the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA), which warn of increasingly sophisticated fraud methods.
“Since more sophisticated procedures are regularly used, we have decided to make our own experiences public,” the company explains. They hope to raise awareness of this criminal trend.
Formula 1 and KitKat have only been official partners since last year. Both celebrated a major anniversary in 2025: the premier class of motorsport turned 75, while KitKat celebrated the 90th anniversary of its world-famous chocolate bar.
