(Motorsport-Total.com) – Mick Schumacher is convinced that Formula 1 will solve its current problems: “I believe the thing with Formula 1 is that it is constantly evolving. They will always work hard to solve and improve every problem they face. Sometimes it takes a little longer. Sometimes it happens faster, almost overnight,” he says.

In 2021 and 2022, the son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher himself sat behind the wheel of an F1 car and shows himself extremely nuanced in conversation with Motorsport-Total.com. (You can find the full interview with the RLL driver here.)
For the 2026 Formula 1 season, there is currently heavy criticism from all sides. Even Stefano Domenicali, the head of the racing series, emphasizes the need to adjust the regulations.
However, after three races, Schumacher sees no reason to panic: “I believe they will find a solution for what they are currently dealing with – no matter what problem they have right now.
Formula 1 was and will certainly remain the pinnacle of motorsport for a very long time, and for good reason, simply because they are so good at reinventing themselves and trying to challenge the formula of their own championship a little bit.”

In this context, Schumacher mentions the 2022 season. Back then, it was not superclipping or battery management that dominated the scene, but the so-called porpoising. At times, the fastest cars in the world bounced like lowriders over the asphalt and provided bizarre images in the first third of the year.
“When we look back at 2022, when the cars bottomed out so much, they found solutions for it by the end of the year. But beyond that, within the next two to three years, they made it one of the fastest cars ever. So I do not doubt that they will find a way to improve what they have to have fun again,” said the German.

That very fun, as much as it is currently missed by drivers like Max Verstappen these days, Schumacher can only experience from the outside as a spectator. After all, the adventure Formula 1 ended for the Swiss by choice at the end of the 2022 season with his dismissal at Haas.
After his time as a test driver at Mercedes and a stint at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 27-year-old has been drawn to US formula racing. Schumacher is currently in 25th and thus last place in the championship.
