The refinements to the regulations come into effect at the Miami Grand Prix. The rule changes include increasing the super-clipping power from 250 to 350 kilowatts to speed up battery charging. At the same time, the maximum charging limit is reduced from 8 to 7 megajoules to reduce excessive energy recovery. Additionally, a system will be introduced that triggers a minimum acceleration if a car stalls at the race start.
While discussing the regulations on the High Performance podcast, Piastri said: “It’s hard to say [if the changes will be enough]. I think there are definitely some rule changes that are absolutely a step in the right direction.”
“I think some things are about the power you get from the boost button; to be honest, there are many rules I still need to look at closely to understand what specifically changes. So it’s still complex, and with the engines we have, there will always be some kind of compromise.”

What impressed the Australian driver most was the collaboration between drivers, teams, the FIA, Formula 1, and other stakeholders to implement the changes quickly.
“For me, the most important thing was the coordination and cooperation between the drivers, the teams, Formula 1, and the FIA,” he said. “It was actually quite refreshing, especially for some of the more experienced guys, to see this collaboration, but time will tell. I think there will probably be further adjustments needed. How easy these are to implement this year, we don’t know.”
“But I’m sure there will be some changes next year or in the future, but it’s definitely moving in the right direction. Hopefully, we’ll see that in action in Miami.” The Miami Grand Prix takes place from May 1 to 3.
