(Motorsport-Total.com) – Former Haas team principal Günther Steiner considers Aston Martin’s poor start to the season inexcusable. This perspective was shared by the Formula 1 expert and author in the podcast “The Red Flags”.

“No one expected them to start the season so poorly prepared,” Steiner emphasizes in the conversation. “They have everything in the right place. They have the people, the infrastructure, the money. So there is no excuse for their current position.”
In the Constructors’ Championship, Aston Martin shares the wooden spoon with Cadillac. Both the team around Adrian Newey and the newcomer from the USA have so far failed to score a single point. The British car brand has been an official part of the Grand Prix circus again since 2021.
When asked whether the Formula 1 forced break represents an important opportunity for the former Jordan team, Steiner replies: “Certainly it is an opportunity. How big? We still have to find out.”

The progress Aston Martin has made so far
Aston Martin had no performance updates in Florida. Instead, the team’s focus was on trying to improve the car’s reliability. Both drivers were able to finish the Miami Grand Prix. While Fernando Alonso was classified in 15th place at the end, Lance Stroll finished in 17th place.
Since the beginning of the year, Aston Martin has struggled not only with the car’s performance. At times, vibrations of the AMR26 caused Alonso and Stroll to have to pit prematurely. Added to this are technical problems with the Honda-built power unit.
Günther Steiner is also far from enthusiastic about Adrian Newey as team principal. There are now rumors that Jonathan Wheatley is expected to take over at Aston Martin sooner or later. Previously, the 59-year-old was team principal at Audi.
