“I would like to think [after my career] that I was not just an arbitrary driver who went along during a team’s successful period,” said Piastri. “I would rather want to believe that I contributed to the team’s success.”
So far, the Australian can look back on two Constructors’ titles and a third place in the Drivers’ World Championship in his McLaren career. Added to this are numerous titles in the junior categories of motorsport, including championships in Formula 3 and Formula 2.
Hard racer without a world title?
“Even in the case that I should not become a world champion, or it simply doesn’t work out, I hope that I will be seen as a hard racer,” Piastri further emphasizes. “Someone who did everything to be the best, but in the right way. That is very important to me.”

Currently, Piastri is sixth in the Drivers’ World Championship, eight points behind his teammate Lando Norris. McLaren is third in the Constructors’ World Championship with 94 points.
