The Ferrari driver was exactly 41 years, five months, and seven days old at his triumph in Spain – making him the seventh oldest winner of a Formula 1 race. Additionally, Hamilton is the fourth oldest world champion to have won a race in the top class: only Giuseppe Farina, Juan Manuel Fangio, and Jack Brabham were older.
A special case remains the American Sam Hanks, who won the legendary Indy 500 in 1957 at the age of 42 years, ten months, and 17 days. Although the race was officially part of the World Championship at the time, it was not a classic Formula 1 Grand Prix and thus holds a statistical special position in historical classification.

By the way: The likelihood that Hamilton will challenge the record as the oldest winner in Formula 1 history is very low. For that, the Briton would have to win again in the 2038 season, twelve years from now. Only then would he crown himself the undisputed oldest Grand Prix winner in history.
Which driver currently holds this age record and which other drivers have also won a Grand Prix beyond the age of 40 is revealed in our photo gallery with all previous over-40 winners in Formula 1 history.
