(Motorsport-Total.com) – Lance Stroll was penalized three times within nine laps for exceeding track limits at the 2026 British Grand Prix. The Aston Martin driver received a total of 15 penalty seconds, which, however, had no impact on his final result.

Sportingly, the weekend was disappointing for the Canadian anyway. The AMR26 once again presented itself as the slowest car on the grid in Silverstone. Throughout the entire weekend, onboard footage showed that Stroll was mainly struggling with strong understeer.
In qualifying, Stroll finished 21st and thus second to last. Only his teammate Fernando Alonso was slower. For the race, however, Stroll had to start from 22nd and last place after Aston Martin changed components of the Honda power unit beyond the allowed quota. For this, the Canadian received a ten-place grid penalty.
Three penalties within nine laps
Stroll only attracted attention in the final phase of the race. After he had already accumulated the three allowed track limit violations, each further leaving of the track automatically resulted in a time penalty.
The race stewards initially imposed a five-second penalty after Stroll exceeded the track limits for the fourth time in turn 18 on lap 33. Two laps later, after another violation in turn 9, the second five-second penalty followed. He received the third and final penalty on lap 42 when he ignored the track limits for the sixth time in turn 15.

In total, the sanctions added up to 15 penalty seconds. However, this did not change his position. Stroll was classified 19th and last driver to finish the race.
Hope for updates for the Hungarian GP
After the race, the Canadian explained that the team knows the weaknesses of the car and hopes for the planned developments: “We have the information we need and know in which areas we need to improve. Such weekends are therefore mainly a matter of patience until the updates arrive.”
Regarding the handling of his car, Stroll added: “We had a lot of understeer in the race and a very unpredictable car. This makes it difficult to stay within the track limits. I always try to get everything out of the car and hope that the situation improves soon.”
Aston Martin plans the next major update package for the Hungarian Grand Prix at the end of July. There, the team hopes to at least partially fix the current problems of the AMR26.
