Because it is precisely in qualifying that it becomes clear who gets more out of the material: With soft tires on the car and little fuel in the tank, the absolute fastest laps are possible on a Grand Prix race weekend. Qualifying is therefore also considered the true supreme discipline in motorsport. It clearly shows who is truly fast – and who is not.
