On a personal level, however, things are going much better: Russell proposed to his long-time partner Carmen Montero Mundt during the summer break.

The current third in the World Championship shared the joyful news on social media and published several pictures of the special moment. According to the photos, the Brit asked his partner the big question during a romantic dinner on the beach.
Russell apparently got down on one knee in front of his partner by candlelight. Alongside the pictures, the Mercedes driver posted only a ring and a white heart in the comments. The reaction was not long in coming: within less than 24 hours, the post had already been liked more than two million times.
Russell and Montero Mundt a couple since 2020
Russell and Montero Mundt have been a couple since early 2020, after meeting through a mutual friend. Since then, the Spaniard has regularly been seen in the Formula 1 paddock alongside the Mercedes driver.
Montero Mundt works in the financial sector and recently launched her own skincare brand, Barriers. The native Spaniard moved to the UK at the age of 18 to study there. She completed her studies in Business Administration and Finance at the University of Westminster.

Russell has already emphasized several times how important his partner is to him. In June 2026, he spoke to the Times about the significance of Montero Mundt and hinted that a wedding in the coming years is quite possible.

“Carmen gives me stability when it comes to racing, and at the same time a way to switch off,” Russell explained. “Without a doubt, she is my future. So I hope that we will get married at some point. It won’t be next week, but it won’t take longer than five years either. Somewhere in that timeframe.”

The engagement also brought joy to Russell’s colleagues. Numerous congratulations from the Formula 1 paddock reached the couple shortly after the announcement. “Congratulations to you both, my friend,” wrote Russell’s Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli under the post.
Alpine driver Pierre Gasly, Mercedes, Williams, Formula 1 itself, as well as Lily Muni He, the fiancée of Alex Albon, also congratulated the newly engaged couple. Whether things will also improve for Russell on the racetrack will be seen after the summer break…
