(Motorsport-Total.com) – Cadillac’s Formula 1 program has a new team principal. As the US racing team announced on Wednesday, Marcin Budkowski takes over the duties from Graeme Lowdon with immediate effect. The team refers to this as “a planned leadership change as the organization evolves from its initial build-up phase into the next performance phase on the track.”

Budkowski joins Cadillac with more than two decades of Formula 1 experience. He has worked as an aerodynamicist for the teams Prost, Ferrari, and McLaren, and briefly served as team principal for Renault and Alpine.

Additionally, Budkowski has worked as the technical director for the FIA, the world governing body for motorsport. While the 49-year-old Pole now takes on the role of team principal at Cadillac, the previous team principal Graeme Lowdon is leaving the team.

“The appointment of Marcin is another important step in the continuous development of Cadillac’s Formula 1 team,” explains CEO Dan Towriss. “From the beginning, our goal was not just to participate in Formula 1, but to build a next-generation team capable of competing at the front.”

“At the start of this new era for Cadillac, Marcin brings exceptional Formula 1 experience, technical expertise, and strategic leadership skills. These will strengthen our organization and help us develop the winning mentality, tools, and processes required for long-term success.”

Budkowski himself comments on his appointment with the words: “Cadillac’s Formula 1 team has an exceptional foundation and great ambitions. The team is currently in a phase full of opportunities, with a clear goal: maximizing vehicle development within the budget cap and optimally aligning all team functions for competition.”

“My focus,” the new Cadillac team principal continues, “will be on aligning our staff, tools, and information flows so that the right decisions are made quickly and the car’s performance improves at every race. It is a privilege to lead the racing activities of Cadillac’s Formula 1 team starting with Zandvoort next weekend.”

While Budkowski takes over immediately, CEO Dan Towriss also has a few words for the departing team principal: “We are grateful to Graeme Lowdon for his leadership role and the contribution he made in building Cadillac’s Formula 1 team from the ground up. His contribution was instrumental in creating a solid foundation during our build-up phase. We thank him for his commitment and wish him all the best.”
