(Motorsport-Total.com) – As one of two teams on the Formula 1 grid, Williams has officially confirmed its two regular drivers for the upcoming 2027 season early. After the team announced the contract extension with Alexander Albon on Tuesday, the confirmation for Carlos Sainz now follows. According to a Williams statement, the Spaniard has signed a “multi-year contract.” Thus, Williams will continue to rely on the driver duo Albon/Sainz at least through 2027, with whom they have already competed since 2025.

“I am very excited to announce that I will continue my journey with the family of the Formula 1 team Williams,” said Sainz. As a reason for staying with the British team, the 31-year-old Spaniard added: “I firmly believe in the people who make up this team, both at the factory and at the racetracks. And I believe in the investments and the hard work that is done behind the scenes.”

“We have what it takes to turn things around together. I remain as committed as on day one to bringing Williams back to where it belongs. I look forward to creating more memorable moments together with the team,” said Sainz.
Sainz’s best result so far as a Williams driver are two third places, which he achieved in the 2025 season in Baku and Lusail. In the current 2026 season, he has not yet gone beyond P9 with the current FW48. The best result so far from teammate Alex Albon in the current season is P8 from Monte Carlo.

Williams team principal James Vowles explains the continuation of the collaboration with Sainz with the words: “Since his entry, Carlos’ talent behind the wheel and his commitment at the factory have been invaluable to this project. Day by day, he works with his engineers to extract every millisecond. He is a leadership figure in this team, and I am very pleased that he recognizes what is possible as we continue to rebuild the team.”

“It is not only his driving skill and speed that stand out, but also the work he does behind the scenes to achieve top performance. Carlos shares the conviction and ambition that we have at the Formula 1 team Williams. He gives his best every day to make this happen,” said Vowles.
“I am firmly convinced that with Alex [Albon] and him, we have one of the strongest driver line-ups on the grid and a team that can fight together for every fraction of performance,” says the Williams team principal, whose own position in the team is not quite as secure as that of Albon and Sainz.
The second Formula 1 team on the grid that has also officially confirmed its driver duo for 2027 is Cadillac. The team from the USA, which entered Grand Prix racing in the current 2026 season, has Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez under two-year contracts, allowing them to race for the team also in 2027. All other teams have so far only officially confirmed one or even no driver for 2027. (Overview: The drivers and teams of the 2027 Formula 1 season)
