(Motorsport-Total.com) – Lando Norris and McLaren have agreed on a long-term contract extension, which will keep the reigning Formula 1 world champion with the team at least until 2030.

On Saturday morning, McLaren announced that Norris had been tied to the team until 2030. In addition, there are multi-year options that can further extend the 26-year-old’s stay. Norris personally announced the news to the staff at the factory in Woking during the team’s annual family and friends day.
“McLaren is my home, and I am very happy to have signed a new contract that will keep me with the team at least until 2030,” Norris was quoted as saying. “When I started this journey nine years ago, I had clear ideas about the goals I wanted to achieve: to bring McLaren back to the top and win championships.”
“We have achieved this goal, but we want more. We want to keep winning, and as a team, we know we are capable of it. I can’t wait to get back in the car in Monza, and I am very excited about what the future holds for us – both for the rest of this season and in the years to come.”
Topic Salary: Championship-level adjustment likely
Norris’ previous contract ran until the end of 2027. This effectively extends the Briton’s stay in Woking by at least another four years. Teammate Oscar Piastri is still under contract until the end of 2028, after extending his contract at the beginning of last year.
Salaries are rarely made public in Formula 1, but it is likely that Norris will receive a significant pay raise after his world championship title and considering his driving development. His strong progress continued in the first half of the 2026 season. Norris took advantage of the upgrades on the McLaren and won the two most recent Grands Prix in Hungary and the Netherlands.
In addition to the contract extension, Norris also received his 2025 world championship car, the MCL39, as a gift.

What Andrea Stella and Zak Brown say
Team principal Andrea Stella expressed being “delighted” to continue working with Norris for the foreseeable future: “He is an exceptional driver, someone who combines outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency, and a strong commitment to McLaren. Above all, he is a special person who is highly valued by everyone in the team.”
“Since he joined McLaren through our junior program, he has grown with us and played a central role in bringing the team back to the top of Formula 1,” says Stella. “This extension gives us important continuity and strengthens our confidence in the path we have taken together. With him and Oscar, we know that we not only have one of the strongest driver pairings but also one of the most united and close-knit teams in Formula 1.”
Norris began his McLaren career in 2017 as a junior in the McLaren squad before being promoted to a full-time driver in 2019. Since then, he has raced exclusively for the papaya-colored team and has collected 13 Grand Prix wins, 18 pole positions, and 48 podiums.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown, who played an important role in Norris’ rise through the various junior levels, says: “His journey with the team is a fantastic example of our commitment to identifying, developing, and nurturing world-class talent. His achievements speak for themselves.”

Norris, most recently the winner of the Grands Prix in Hungary and the Netherlands, is currently fourth in the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship with 159 points. The overall leader is currently Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli with 242 points. The next race weekend will take place from September 4 to 6 in Antonelli’s home country Italy (Monza).
