The driver market for the Formula 1 season 2027 remains in motion: While some racing teams have created planning security early, important personnel decisions are still open at other teams.
Several drivers have long-term contracts and can approach their future calmly. Others still have to fight for their place in Formula 1 or are waiting for a contract extension. Accordingly, some teams could fundamentally change their driver lineup for 2027 once again.
The current overview shows all confirmed drivers and teams of the Formula 1 season 2027, the remaining open cockpits, as well as the durations of the known contracts. All contractually confirmed lineups are available in the photo gallery (see below) and additionally in the following text overview.
Overview: Drivers and Teams in Formula 1 2027
Mercedes: According to his own statement, George Russell will also drive for Mercedes in 2027. However, an official confirmation is still pending, as is the case with Kimi Antonelli, whose original contract was only extended until the end of 2026. Team principal Toto Wolff only stated that he is “satisfied” with his current drivers. Given the current championship situation, Antonelli’s stay at Mercedes is likely.
Ferrari: Charles Leclerc remains a Ferrari driver for “several years” because he signed a corresponding contract extension in summer 2026. This means he is likely set until at least the end of 2028. Lewis Hamilton joined Ferrari in 2025 for “several years.” Whether that includes 2027 is open. Team principal Frederic Vasseur has so far only hinted at this – with the tendency that Hamilton will stay. Hamilton himself said he is “one hundred percent” sure.
The Formula 1 Drivers 2027

McLaren: After his early contract extension, Oscar Piastri is likely to race for McLaren until at least 2028. Lando Norris also has a long-term contract, which was extended again in summer 2026. This means Norris is now under contract with McLaren until and including 2023.
Red Bull: Max Verstappen already committed long-term to Red Bull in 2022 and signed a contract until and including 2028. In mid-2026, amid numerous speculations about Verstappen’s future, Red Bull announced an early contract extension until and including 2030. Verstappen’s current teammate Isack Hadjar was only confirmed for the 2026 season, not beyond.
Alpine: Both drivers at Alpine are set: Pierre Gasly extended his contract early by two more years and will race for the French-British team until at least the end of 2028. Franco Colapinto has also now been confirmed at least for the 2027 season.

Racing Bulls: The Red Bull group always grants the cockpits at Racing Bulls only for one season. Accordingly, it is open whether the team will continue with Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad in 2027. Both will compete in their first full year for Racing Bulls in 2026, Lindblad also in his first year in Formula 1.
Haas: Whether Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon will also race for Haas in 2027 is still unclear. Both have been under contract with the US team since 2025 and for “several years.” The exact duration is not known.
The contract durations of the current Formula 1 drivers

Williams: Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz have signed contract extensions with Williams that bind them to the team until at least the end of 2027. For Albon, it was specifically confirmed that it is a one-year extension. In the case of Sainz, it is an extension for several years. The Spaniard will therefore race for Williams until at least 2028.
Audi: In 2025, Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hülkenberg explicitly joined the then Sauber team for “several years,” which has been competing as Audi’s factory team since 2026. Whether the 2027 Formula 1 season still falls within the current contract duration is not officially known. In summer 2026, Audi project leader Mattia Binotto only said: “We have great drivers we are satisfied with. Both are very fast.” Later, Hülkenberg confirmed his stay and said there were “no question marks” for 2027.
Aston Martin: Only Lance Stroll is set for the 2027 season – at least theoretically. As the son of team owner Lawrence Stroll, he practically has a job guarantee, so a contract extension should actually be a formality. His current contract probably expires at the end of 2026, just like Fernando Alonso’s. The latter has repeatedly emphasized that he wants to decide “in the summer” about continuing his Formula 1 career.
Cadillac: Everything is clear with Formula 1 newcomer Cadillac: The two Grand Prix veterans Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez signed two-year contracts for the 2026 season and therefore have their cockpits secured until at least the end of 2027. Possible options could then decide the further future of Bottas and Perez at Cadillac.
