(Motorsport-Total.com) – After Ferrari, Red Bull, and McLaren, Racing Bulls now apparently follows at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza: Because the team from Faenza wants to use a “Macarena” rear wing for the first time at the home race, after the new solution was already successfully tested during the filming day in Imola.

This could give Racing Bulls an additional advantage in the fight against Alpine for fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Monza is known as the “Temple of Speed” – and thus as a track where aerodynamic efficiency is of particular importance.
On the 5.793 kilometers of the Italian traditional circuit, the goal is to achieve the highest possible average speed. At the same time, the car must generate enough downforce to safely navigate the three chicanes Prima Variante, Roggia, and Ascari. The decisive factor is to keep air resistance as low as possible.
For the Italian Grand Prix, besides aerodynamics, a powerful power unit with efficient energy management is also required. Because the possibilities to recover energy solely through braking regeneration are limited in Monza.
Racing Bulls test “Macarena” wing in Imola
Racing Bulls has already prepared for the Monza weekend. Last week, the team completed a TPC test with junior driver Nikola Tsolov as well as a filming day in Imola. The two regular drivers Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson were involved.
The 200 kilometers allowed by the FIA for commercial recordings are no longer used by Formula 1 teams solely for marketing purposes. Rather, filming days offer a welcome opportunity to test new solutions under real track conditions.
Exactly that is what Racing Bulls is said to have done in Imola with the new rear wing. The solution could now be used for the first time during a race weekend in Monza. The so-called “Macarena” wing was developed by the aerodynamicists around Tim Goss in Milton Keynes.
The Racing Bulls solution shows a kinship with the Red Bull system. The special rear wing differs in the way the flaps rotate or move. The principle is reminiscent of the solution already known at Red Bull, which in turn differs from the system Ferrari uses on the SF-26.

While the Red Bull variant apparently struggled with reliability issues during development, the Racing Bulls example is said to have worked flawlessly during the test in Imola. The positive impressions could now lead to the wing being used already in Monza.
Additional weapon in the fight against Alpine?
For Racing Bulls, the new aerodynamic solution would be particularly valuable at this point in time. The team from Faenza is fighting for fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship and wants to finish as the best team behind the four currently significantly stronger top teams.
The toughest competitor is Alpine: After the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, Racing Bulls is only three points ahead of the French team. Both teams came away empty-handed in Zandvoort. In Monza, the “Macarena” wing could therefore be an additional weapon.
Added to this is the importance of the Red Bull-Ford power unit. The FIA has confirmed the engine as a benchmark after completing the analyses of the second ADUO period. Racing Bulls could thus have a package in the combination of power unit and aerodynamics that can especially play to its strengths on the long straights of Monza.
Whether the “Macarena” wing will actually be used at the home race and how big its performance gain will be is likely to become clear on the track at the latest. The successful tests in Imola have apparently given Racing Bulls enough confidence to consider the unusual solution for Monza.
