Red Bull confirmed on Monday evening that Hadjar needs more time to recover from his wrist injury. This means the Frenchman will miss his third consecutive Grand Prix.

“The decision was made as Isack’s recovery continues to progress positively,” said Red Bull. “Although he is not yet ready to return to the cockpit, he will be on site in Madrid to support the team.”

As recently in Zandvoort and Monza, Liam Lawson will also drive the RB22 in Madrid. As in the past two races, Yuki Tsunoda will again take Lawson’s place at Racing Bulls.

Hadjar suffered a fracture of his left wrist at the end of the summer break during boxing, which is an integral part of his training program.

Since Red Bull did not want to take any risks with Hadjar’s injury, Lawson and Tsunoda remained in their positions at last weekend’s race in Monza.

Since Monza and the new Madrid circuit represent back-to-back weekends and the preparation time is short, team principal Laurent Mekies had already indicated in Monza that Hadjar’s return to the new track would be “difficult.”

In Hadjar’s absence, Lawson finished seventh in Zandvoort. In Monza, the New Zealander was unable to fight far enough forward after an engine penalty to score championship points.

Tsunoda finished eleventh in Zandvoort and tenth in Monza, while Audi is still reviewing whether to appeal the race stewards’ decision not to penalize the Japanese driver for the allegedly caused additional formation lap.
