Norris: Use the break after Japan
McLaren reached a temporary low point this season yesterday. Neither of the two drivers could participate in the race. Nevertheless, world champion Lando Norris emphasizes that they will not give up on 2026 yet.
“I have great hope and great confidence in the team that we can turn things around,” he clarifies, explaining that he believes “that we can fight for podium finishes at some point this year and maybe even for victories later in the season.”
Due to the cancelled races in April, they now have a bit more time for the further development of the car. This might give them the chance to bring some updates to the track “earlier,” according to Norris.

Vasseur: There will be no miracle solution
According to their own statement, Ferrari is currently missing up to half a second to Mercedes. And Frederic Vasseur clarified on Sky in this context that they will not find it all at once.
They will not look for a “magic bullet” that brings five tenths, according to the team principal. “I think it’s probably better to find five things that each bring a tenth,” he explains.
Charles Leclerc reveals: “There are some things in the pipeline [for the next races]. To what extent will that make a difference when we look at the gap to Mercedes? I don’t know.”
In any case, it is also clear to him that Mercedes is currently “the big favorite.”
Slept badly?
Although the gap is probably larger than it sometimes appears on the track, Ferrari likely didn’t have such a bad night. Because at least the Scuderia has currently clearly established itself as the second force behind Mercedes.
On the other hand, Williams team principal James Vowles did not sleep so well – at least that’s what our editor Norman Fischer believes. You can find our two popular Monday columns here:
