(Motorsport-Total.com) – In the Formula 1 film released in 2025, he is seen despairing as Joshua Pearce alongside teammate Sonny Hayes – played by Brad Pitt – but now actor Damson Idris is also getting a role in the premier class in real life: As Formula 1 announces, the Briton will become the series’ new brand ambassador.

“I have always been drawn to areas where culture, performance and precision meet, and Formula 1 is right at the center of that,” says the 34-year-old. “I had enormous respect for it even before the film, but the closer contact has given me a real understanding of the innovation, the heart and the intensity behind it all – and the elite level at which the drivers operate.”
“I am sincerely thrilled to take on this role as a global ambassador. Being part of this world now means a lot to me, and I am proud to represent something that inspires and connects people all over the world,” said Idris.
As a global brand ambassador, Idris will act as a bridge between the world of Formula 1 and the broader cultural and entertainment landscape. He will attend several Grands Prix and support Formula 1 with various content, partner activities and general promotional measures to inspire a new wave of fans for the sport.
“I am very pleased to officially welcome Damson Idris to the Formula 1 family,” says Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali. “After his leading role in ‘F1 The Movie’, which made history at the box office and helped bring our sport closer to a new audience, he is now joining us as an official global brand ambassador.”

“Formula 1 is all about authenticity, and Damson is passionate about the sport and shares our vision to keep it growing. It is therefore fantastic that we will continue to work with him. With his incredible platform and his position in the entertainment and lifestyle sector, we will push the boundaries of how we reach fans together.”
The film has so far grossed more than 630 million dollars at the box office, making it the most successful sports film of all time. It is therefore not surprising that a sequel to the film was recently announced.
In the film, Idris captivated audiences as Joshua Pearce, an up-and-coming driver within a fictional team called APX GP in the middle of the paddock. The project was filmed during real Grands Prix with the full cooperation of Formula 1 and brought Idris together side-by-side with teams, drivers and race operations.
