Experimental rear wing
Since we just talked about the updates this weekend: McLaren has a new rear wing that they want to test today in practice. It is their own version of Ferrari’s “Macarena wing”.
They will not use it in the race, it is only there in Spielberg for testing purposes.
Drivers’ dinner
The boss invited. Stefano Domenicali hosted a dinner yesterday in Spielberg with all Formula 1 drivers (and some other guests). Here is a picture of the illustrious group. You would have loved to be a fly on the wall …
Formula 2: Best time for Goethe
We have some good news from a German perspective from Formula 2. Oliver Goethe just set the best time in practice. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that he can also deliver in qualifying and especially in the races on Saturday and Sunday.
So far, it has been a season to forget for the former Red Bull junior with only one points finish.
Updates
The FIA has now published the list of all updates this weekend. Among the top teams, Red Bull brought the biggest package to the home race. They registered a total of seven innovations.
In the midfield, we see Audi with a larger package also consisting of seven changes to the car. And at the very back of the field, Cadillac even reported ten innovations.

Formula 3: Many drivers in the gravel
Sooner, Spielberg had a big problem with track limits. They got it under control by adding small gravel traps at various points. These have already caught several drivers in Formula 3 practice.
The best time ultimately went to former Mercedes junior Noah Stromsted. Later, qualifying will take place in the smallest class.
Side notes
Two side notes from Spielberg: Loic Bacquelaine is serving as a race steward this weekend. However, the FIA has now announced that he is unavailable today. He will therefore be replaced by Tanja Geilhausen on Friday but is expected to resume his duties normally from tomorrow.
And then Williams and Cadillac broke the curfew last night. There is no penalty because all teams have five jokers per year for this period. Cadillac used their first, Williams the second.
