Marginal notes
Two marginal notes from Spielberg: Loic Bacquelaine is on duty as a race steward this weekend. However, the FIA has now announced that he is unavailable today. He will therefore be replaced by Tanja Geilhausen on Friday but is expected to resume his duties normally from tomorrow.
And then Williams and Cadillac broke the curfew last night. There is no penalty, however, because all teams have five jokers available per year for this period. Cadillac used its first, Williams the second.

“Silly Season”
The “Silly Season” is slowly gaining momentum. Therefore, in our new video, we spoke with our expert Marc Surer and speculated a bit about the future of drivers like Fernando Alonso or Max Verstappen.
Formula 1 stays with ServusTV
Important information for all Formula 1 fans in Austria: The premier class will be shown on ServusTV until at least the end of 2029. A corresponding contract extension has just been announced.
How many races exactly will be shown on ServusTV from 2027 is not specified in the press release. Currently, the rights are shared in Austria with ORF.
The current agreement expires at the end of 2026. At least the contract with ServusTV has now been extended.
Schumacher: Spielberg against Hamilton’s nature
Expert Ralf Schumacher is not sure if Lewis Hamilton will be back at the front this weekend. “Of course, there are tracks you like or like less,” he explains in the podcast Backstage Boxengasse from Sky.
“He likes to brake very late, very deep into the corners,” he says about Hamilton and explains that this driving style does not necessarily fit the Red Bull Ring. By braking late, you sometimes lose “a bit too much at the corner exit”.
And because the time gain at the corner entry is not big enough, this goes “a bit against his nature” for Hamilton, says Schumacher. On the other hand, the Briton now feels “super” in the Ferrari, the expert also knows.
Therefore, Hamilton will basically be well positioned this weekend as well, “if the car is again like [in Barcelona]”.
FIA intervenes: Mercedes must change diffuser
Mercedes has made “minor adjustments” to the diffuser introduced in Montreal after Ferrari requested clarification on the design from the FIA.
Subsequently, the federation issued a technical directive after the race in Barcelona, to which Mercedes had to respond for the Grand Prix in Austria.
You can read all the background here.

Trophy for Gasly
Although the race in Spielberg is only scheduled for Sunday, Pierre Gasly already received a trophy this week. The Frenchman has finally received the trophy for third place in Monaco retroactively.
Now we wait to see if he is allowed to keep it. Because a protest is still ongoing …
Today 15 years ago …
… Sebastian Vettel won the rather unspectacular 2011 European Grand Prix in Valencia for Red Bull. But precisely because the race was so uneventful, a Formula 1 record that still stands today was set back then.
Which one it is, you will find out in this photo series:
16 Formula 1 records that (probably) will never be broken
