(Motorsport-Total.com) – There is still no movement in the Formula 1 driver market. After Williams recently confirmed Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz for the 2027 season and Max Verstappen extended his contract with Red Bull, Alpine has now also confirmed Franco Colapinto for the coming year.

With the team from Enstone, there will also be no change in the driver lineup for the 2027 Formula 1 season. Colapinto’s teammate Pierre Gasly had already extended his contract last year until the end of 2028.
“We are very pleased to be able to confirm our driver lineup for 2027. Franco remains in the team alongside Pierre as a racing driver. Continuity is very important to me,” emphasizes Flavio Briatore and adds: “This year we have witnessed how Franco has developed and matured into a great driver.”
“From the drivers’ perspective, we have now settled everything, and I have often said that while this is an important part of the puzzle, the most important thing for us is the development and construction of a fast racing car. And that remains our top priority,” says Briatore.
Thus, Alpine will start the 2027 season for the third consecutive year with the (more or less) same driver duo. Although Jack Doohan began the 2025 season alongside Gasly, after only six races he lost his cockpit to Colapinto.
The Argentine experienced a difficult first season in Enstone without a single World Championship point but improved in 2026 and finished in the top 10 six times. His best result was sixth place in Canada, which is also his best Formula 1 result to date.

“Especially his results in Miami and Montreal confirmed what I already knew: Franco belongs in Formula 1 and he belongs in this team,” emphasizes Briatore and adds: “I expect that both Franco and Pierre will continue to do an excellent job on the track.”
Colapinto himself explains: “I am very happy to stay with the team in 2027 as well. I feel very comfortable and well taken care of here, and it is all the more pleasing that we have made significant progress this year compared to last year.”
The contract durations of the current Formula 1 drivers

“We still have many milestones ahead of us, and I know the team is working hard to improve performance and make the car better and better,” he says, emphasizing: “I am grateful to the team, Flavio, and Steve [Nielsen] for the trust they place in me.”
Colapinto made his debut in the top class at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix for Williams. There he replaced the unlucky Logan Sargeant from Monza for the rest of the year. In 2025, he initially joined Alpine as a reserve driver but was promoted to the main cockpit after just six races.
Colapinto’s exact contract duration with Alpine is not known; he was initially confirmed until the end of 2027.
