Madrid is the first brand-new track on the calendar of the premier class after three years, following the first race in Las Vegas in 2023.

Who will win the race in Spain this weekend is of course not yet foreseeable, but every driver is certainly eager to be the first to enter the winners’ lists of a new Grand Prix.

The first winner at the Las Vegas Grand Prix was Max Verstappen. The Dutchman followed up with another strong performance in a dominant season in which Red Bull only failed to win one race, winning ahead of Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc and his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.

However, the weekend is remembered not for the race but for the incidents on the first practice day. The first practice had to be stopped after just a few minutes because Carlos Sainz drove over a loose manhole cover and damaged his car.

Due to delays caused by the need to inspect all manhole covers, the second practice was held only in the middle of the night in front of empty stands – much to the frustration of the fans. But of course, there have also been exciting and spectacular track debuts like in 2021 in Saudi Arabia, when Verstappen and world championship rival Lewis Hamilton fought hard – including a collision – and finally traveled to the world championship finale in Abu Dhabi tied on points.

And Singapore 2008 was also the first race on that track. And we all know what the first night race of Formula 1 is famous for – certainly not for this fact…
