The friendship between the Briton and the Spaniard developed during their time together at McLaren in 2019 and 2020. During this phase, they were given the nickname “Carlando” by fans and became particularly known for their humorous banter, joint golf duels, and their relaxed manner at media appointments.

Quadrant released an initial teaser on social networks. Fan reactions were not long in coming. One user wrote: “The collaboration of my dreams,” while another commented: “This video will be great, I have missed Carlando content so much. Thanks Quadrant”.

Career paths after the McLaren era

Sainz left the Woking-based team at the end of 2020 for Ferrari. After four seasons with the Scuderia, he was replaced there by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Norris, on the other hand, remained loyal to McLaren.

Already at his teammate’s departure, Norris spoke about their time together with Sainz. “I didn’t know Carlos at all before we became teammates,” he said at the time to F1.com. “Of course I knew who he was, but we had never spoken and I didn’t know him particularly well. That’s why I went into this collaboration with very little prior knowledge and we became good friends both on and off the track and at the same time tough competitors.”

Special friendship remains in memory

Sainz added: “That developed quite naturally from the first day I met Lando. I got along with him immediately and we had this special situation. We were extremely competitive, but at the same time we have great respect for each other and try to enjoy Formula 1.”

The Spaniard continued: “I want to emphasize that I get along well with all my teammates. Obviously, it’s something special with Lando, but I don’t expect every new collaboration to automatically become like it was with him.”
