Norris: You shouldn’t lose like this
The world champion himself is unsurprisingly not in a good mood either. “I was the only one in the whole field who didn’t get a pit stop [under the VSC]. That’s why I lost 20 seconds to everyone else,” he complains to Sky.
“That’s unfair, but it has happened before,” says Norris, who emphasizes that something like this shouldn’t decide victory or defeat. “It’s frustrating. I don’t think you should lose like this,” he stresses.
He doesn’t blame the team. “This is not a guessing game,” he explains, because McLaren could have gambled and called Norris to the pits on suspicion. But in his opinion, they just had bad luck.

Brown: Would have won comfortably
McLaren boss Zak Brown goes a step further at Sky and explains that Norris would probably have won the race comfortably without the VSC. “Lando was gone,” he recalls the situation before the safety car.
He believes Norris would have won the race with a 20 or 25 second lead otherwise. “He was dominant. He was gone and managed it brilliantly. […] He was in a league of his own,” says Brown.
But sometimes that doesn’t matter in motorsport.
Wolff: We had luck on our side
“Today the racing god was on our side,” admits Toto Wolff regarding the VSC and explains: “It’s unfortunate for McLaren because they had just passed [the pit entry]. But [Kimi] also drove well, very, very well.”
Andrea Stella on the other hand says unsurprisingly: “We are not satisfied with the result. Lando has once again proven today, after yesterday’s pole position, that his car is the fastest on the track.”
In the end, they were even too fast, which caused them to miss the stop under the VSC.
Spain crash causes trouble
Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso disagree after their accident at the home race. “I think it was unnecessary. There was plenty of space on the left. I was on the wall on the right side, at 340 km/h. I think it wasn’t necessary,” says Alonso.
Sainz, on the other hand, claims: “I think it’s in the nature of this corner that such accidents keep happening there. Because there’s only room for one vehicle.”
“I think he complained on the radio, and that’s how he got me a penalty,” he shrugs. The mood seems a bit tense there.

Hamilton now 101 points behind Antonelli
The record world champion has probably said goodbye to the championship fight today. “It really came unexpectedly,” he says at Sky about his brake failure. Because until now, reliability had been a great strength of the team.
Hamilton reported he had problems with the brakes, then it was normal again for a while. “And then, I think, a few corners later, the pedal went soft,” he reports.
Afterwards, he then stops the Ferrari.

Antonelli: Norris deserved the win
“It was a very difficult race,” reports the winner and emphasizes: “The win is good, but it doesn’t feel so good because I think Lando deserved the win today. But we’ll take it.”
Max Verstappen also explains that Norris had “bad luck” with the VSC. And the Brit himself says: “There was nothing I could do. Congratulations to Kimi and Max, they drove a good race today.”
“Luck was just not on our side. […] I feel like we deserved it today. But that’s how racing sometimes is,” says the world champion.
