Teams break curfew
Although they set the fastest time yesterday, McLaren worked overtime. The team announced late last night that they would break curfew during the night “to carry out preventative work on both MCL40 cars.”
“The team will replace permissible key components to improve the robustness of the power unit installation and integration on both cars,” the team stated.
There will be no penalty for this, as McLaren has used its second of four allowed jokers this year.
Alpine and Cadillac also broke curfew during the night. This was also their second joker of the season.

Weather
We can keep the weather update brief again today. No rain is still forecast in Barcelona, and it’s expected to be similarly hot to yesterday.
The biggest challenge will therefore be to keep the tires in the correct window so that they don’t overheat.

“Good Basis” at Mercedes
Lando Norris was the fastest man in Barcelona on Friday, but George Russell finished just 0.009 seconds behind in P2. The Mercedes driver emphasizes: “The balance of power looks tight.”
“The McLaren drivers were strong over one lap, and the long runs in the second practice showed that we also have to prepare for a tough fight against Ferrari and Red Bull.”
“There are still a few areas we can fine-tune, but we have a good basis to build on overnight. Small improvements will likely make a big difference.”
Although it wasn’t quite enough for the fastest time, he looks “positively at the upcoming weekend.”
