Stella: Mercedes is not done yet

Mercedes won seven of the first eight season races. Nevertheless, Andrea Stella does not believe that the championship is already decided. The McLaren team principal explains: “From a chassis perspective, Mercedes started the season with a decent lead.”

But since then, the Silver Arrows have also brought a bigger upgrade. He therefore suspects: “If Mercedes had come here [to Austria] with the Melbourne car, they probably would have lost the race today, and we would have had a new winner.”

“Even for Mercedes, it is a development race,” he emphasizes and explains: “If they do not further develop their car with another extensive upgrade, I would not be surprised if another team has the fastest car in the second half of the season.”

That means: Mercedes must not slack off, otherwise the lead will quickly be used up. This was already shown by the close race against Verstappen yesterday.
