Aston Martin allowed to start
One more small note about the sprint later: Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso are allowed to participate in the race, even though they missed the 107 percent mark in qualifying and thus actually did not qualify.
The FIA issued both a special permit because they were fast enough in the previous training. A standard procedure in such a case.
What happened at Mercedes?
For the first time this year, no Mercedes will start from pole in the sprint later. Andrew Shovlin from the Silver Arrows explains: “On a sprint weekend, it is always important to get off to a full start immediately. Unfortunately, we did not succeed today.”
“The car was not yet at the level we aimed for in the first training, and the drivers had difficulties from the start to drive consistent lap times. Our long-run pace was more encouraging but still not at the level we aim for.”
“Our difficulties continued in the sprint qualifying. Although Kimi performed better than George, it is clear that we still need to find time overnight – both in energy management and in the general vehicle setup.”
“It seems our competitors brought a bit more performance to this race than we did,” said Shovlin. Let’s see if this impression is confirmed today.

Missed sprint qualifying?
No problem! You still have enough time before the sprint in the evening to catch up with our big video analysis of Friday.
Also today (or rather in the night to Sunday) there will of course be another analysis of this “Super Saturday” on the Formel1.de YouTube channel.
It starts as planned at 01:00 CEST.
Result changed afterwards
A small note right at the start of the day: The qualifying result was changed yesterday. The background is that a lap time by Alexander Albon was subsequently deleted. The Williams driver thus dropped from P14 to P19. You can find the updated result here:
