Williams: Car “marginally” better in Spa

P15 and P16 yesterday for Williams. So once again, it doesn’t look like points. Alexander Albon reports: “The car feels marginally better this weekend compared to Silverstone. So it is a step in the right direction.”

But this step is probably not big enough yet. “We still have a long way to go to the midfield,” Albon also knows. Today it is therefore “mainly about making the best of what we have available.”

Teammate Carlos Sainz speaks of a mixed Friday and explains: “In the first practice there was a problem with my car, so the session was not representative as we could not carry out the desired setup work.”

“In the second practice we made good progress and brought the car into a better window, although I picked up some damage somewhere and it was not a smooth session,” says Sainz.

Weather

At the start of the day, we take the obligatory look at the sky. After some rain in Spa yesterday, albeit only outside the Formula 1 sessions, it does not look like further precipitation today.

The chance of rain is very low for the entire Saturday. Should it get wet anyway, you will of course find out from us.

Russell: Wrong setup on Friday

The Briton only landed in P8 yesterday, almost 1.3 seconds behind his teammate at the top. He himself says about his big deficit: “We didn’t have a particularly smooth Friday here in Spa.”

“We overestimated the grip in the first practice, so our starting setup was not optimal. We struggled with a difficult vehicle balance. Although we gained some insights, all in all it was not an optimal start to our weekend.”

“That’s why we worked hard before FP2 and made some changes that led to an improvement,” says Russell, who knows: “We can still gain more time, especially on a fast lap.”

“Our long run was more competitive, and that gives us confidence for Saturday and Sunday,” says the Briton, who should be much closer today.
