Leclerc: Gave Gasly tips

Does he regret it in hindsight? Charles Leclerc reveals on Canal+: “I am really very happy for Pierre. Yesterday we talked during the briefing, and he asked me for a few tips for corners 6 and 7.”

“And I thought: Well, normally Pierre and I don’t have direct duels that often. That’s why we always exchange a few tips. And when I saw today that he got pole position, I thought: ‘Damn!'”, Leclerc said with a laugh.

In fact, he is “really happy” for Gasly.

Formula 2: Ferrari junior misses Monza win

In Formula 3, an Italian driver won, in Formula 2 Ferrari junior Rafael Camara just narrowly missed the victory. He had to give way to his teammate Joshua Dürksen.

The Mercedes development driver had already won the sprint race yesterday. In the championship, second-placed Camara closed the gap to Red Bull’s Nikola Tsolov a bit with his second place.

There are still four weekends left in Formula 2 with Madrid, Baku, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi – if all these races can take place.

Showrun

There is still a showrun scheduled in Monza today. Sebastian Vettel will pilot an old Ferrari F2002 from Michael Schumacher. The pictures will be available later with us, and here is a little preview:

McLaren: Probably no chance to win today

The McLaren drivers start the race today only from P6 and P8, which is why Andrea Stella does not believe in a real chance to win. “I don’t think at any point [this weekend] we have shown that we have a car that can fight for pole position and be the best car,” said the team principal.

He therefore practically writes off the win in Monza – but not the championship. “We will definitely stay in the fight, regardless of what happens in Monza. However, we still need to work more on the development of the car if we want to catch up to Antonelli and Mercedes in the championship,” he emphasizes.

Anniversary

You really couldn’t make this up: exactly six years ago today Pierre Gasly took his only Formula 1 win so far – of all places in Monza. Can he repeat his triumph today?

“My plan is to stay first for as long as possible,” he already announced yesterday. Expert Ralf Schumacher, however, dampens expectations and explains that a Gasly win is “under normal circumstances” rather unlikely.

But let’s wait and see. After all, in 2020 no one would have bet on the Frenchman either…

Weather

As usual, we take a look at the weather on Sunday morning – but we can keep it short today. Rain is still not in sight in Monza, but temperatures will again be above 30 degrees.

The conditions are therefore very similar to the previous days. Meaning: heat battle instead of rain battle.

Formula 1 is only in the afternoon, but Formula 3 has already completed its race. And the fans already at the track were able to enjoy an Italian victory.

Nicola Lacorte celebrated his first Formula 3 win ever – and that at the home race in Monza. Meanwhile, there was drama for championship leader Freddie Slater, who retired with a defect.

Chaser Ugo Ugochukwu was able to close the gap a bit again. The next race in Madrid is already the season finale in Formula 3.
