Formula 3: Victory for McLaren junior
In Formula 1, McLaren will normally have no chance today. However, in Formula 3, McLaren junior Matteo de Palo just celebrated his first win in the series. He prevailed after a late safety car phase in an exciting finish, among others against his teammate and Audi junior Freddie Slater.
In the championship, Slater remains in second place behind Ugo Ugochukwu, who finished sixth today.

Pole no guarantee
At many tracks, pole position is already half the battle. That is not the case in Silverstone. Including yesterday’s sprint, none of the last three races here were actually won from the best starting position.
Yesterday, Kimi Antonelli won the sprint from P2, in 2025 Lando Norris won from third on the grid, and in 2024 Lewis Hamilton won from second on the grid.
The last polesitter to also win the race in Silverstone was Max Verstappen in 2023. You can read all about it in our large database.
Will Bahrain or Saudi Arabia be rescheduled?
Currently, the 2026 Formula 1 calendar includes “only” 22 races. According to Stefano Domenicali, it could still end up being 23. Because the hope has not yet been given up to reschedule the race in Bahrain or Saudi Arabia.
However, he tells Sky that a decision would have to be made “before the summer break.” According to colleagues, the race would be rescheduled in October between the rounds in Baku and Singapore.
Bahrain is said to have the best chances. This would create a new triple-header for Formula 1 with Baku (September 26), Bahrain (October 4), and Singapore (October 11). Officially, however, this is not yet confirmed.
Today 45 years ago …
… a certain Alain Prost celebrated his first Formula 1 victory. The “Professor” triumphed at his home race in France in 1981 for Renault ahead of John Watson (McLaren-Ford) and Nelson Piquet (Brabham-Ford).
During his career, Prost would achieve a total of 51 Grand Prix wins, which was a Formula 1 record at the time. More about this in this photo gallery:

Weather
As on every race Sunday, we take a look at the sky at the start. We see clouds over the track, but it is not expected to rain today either. Wind could again play a role in Silverstone.
Of course, we will continue to keep an eye on the weather in the coming hours. Before the premier class, the main races of Formula 3, Formula 2, and F1 Academy will take place in Silverstone.
