Formula 3 Training: Audi Junior at the Top
We have a full supporting program this weekend in Silverstone. Not only the F1 Academy is racing, but also Formula 2 and Formula 3 are in action. And in the training session, Audi Junior Freddie Slater was ahead.
Unfortunately, there is no driver from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland this year.

Weather
We take the obligatory look at the weather this weekend. Silverstone is known for rain, but this year it looks more like it will stay dry on all three days.
There is a certain chance of rain each day, but it is not very high. More about this in our extensive weather forecast.

F1 Academy: Swiss Driver in Front
The first session in Silverstone today was the F1 Academy training. Surprisingly, Swiss driver Chiara Bättig was ahead – in her very first appearance in the series.
Mathilda Paatz from Germany finished 14th, Emma Felbermayr from Austria was fourth. The F1 Academy qualifying is scheduled for this evening.
Ten Years Ago Today …
… Lewis Hamilton won the 2016 Austrian GP in Spielberg. The finish was quite controversial, as in the last lap there was a crash between Hamilton and his then Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton: Engine Remains the Biggest Problem
The record champion sees himself and Ferrari as underdogs in the fight for the world championship. In an interview with Sky, the current third in the championship explains: “There are still many races to go, but I am also a realist.”
“Mercedes has won pretty much everything, especially at the beginning, and quite effortlessly,” he emphasizes and adds: “Even when others brought upgrades, they still won.”
Nevertheless, Hamilton says fighting: “Regardless of whether we can keep up with them at this point or not, we really give everything to make up the deficit on the straights.”
“If we had as much power as they do, we would fight with them every weekend. That’s what we are working towards,” says Hamilton, who still sees the biggest problem with the engine.

A small note about our livestreams this weekend on the Formel1.de YouTube channel: In July, we will only broadcast on Saturday and Sunday. The streams on Thursday and Friday are canceled due to personnel reasons.

What Awaits Us in Silverstone
The British Grand Prix in 2026 is likely to be quite different from recent years. Drivers like Max Verstappen or Fernando Alonso are already speculating about the consequences of this year’s hybrid cars.
Keywords like battery management, superclipping, or lift-and-coast are again at the top of the agenda. Because Silverstone has comparatively few hard braking zones.
