60 years ago today …
… Ludovico Scarfiotti won his home race in Monza – and that also for Ferrari. However, at that time no one suspected that to this day it would be the last Formula 1 victory of an Italian in Monza.
Theoretically, there was a good chance this year that it would finally be the first home win in Monza since 1966. But with the grid penalty, it will of course be difficult for Kimi Antonelli on Sunday …
How “bad” will Monza be?
Monza is one of the tracks on the calendar that reveals the weaknesses in the current Formula 1 regulations. Arvid Lindblad explains, for example: “I don’t think there will be big speed differences because simply no one has performance.”
“Where should the speed difference come from?” says the rookie, adding: “If you use the boost, you win on a straight but are extremely slow for the next three laps.”
“You could call it yo-yo racing, but I think it will just be very bad yo-yo racing. I’m not particularly optimistic,” admits the Racing Bulls driver.

Lawson back in Red Bull
Another important piece of information right at the start of the weekend: Isack Hadjar is also not participating in Monza. He is still injured, which is why Liam Lawson will again sit alongside Max Verstappen in the Red Bull.
Lawson’s seat at Racing Bulls is also taken over this time by Yuki Tsunoda. So everything is like in Zandvoort.
Weather
As we do every weekend at the start, let’s first take a look at the weather and see: Formula 1 fans in Monza should not hope for rain. It is supposed to stay dry on all three days.
On the contrary: The FIA has even issued an official heat warning for the race. Temperatures of up to around 35 degrees are expected.

Antonelli starts last
Qualifying in Monza is only scheduled for tomorrow, but one thing we already know before a single car has even driven this weekend: World Championship leader Kimi Antonelli will start from the very back on Sunday.
The Italian has received a new engine and thus a grid penalty at his home race. Maybe his special helmet for motorcycle legend Valentino Rossi will bring luck and help in the chase …
