Formula 1 Upgrade: With this plan, Cadillac wants to chase Aston Martin in Canada

(Motorsport-Total.com) – The Cadillac Formula 1 team has unveiled its latest upgrade package for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. The MAC-26, the US team’s debut car in the top class, was only equipped at the Miami Grand Prix with, among other things, a modified front wing, a new floor, a revised diffuser, and a new rear suspension.

In Florida, performance in qualifying was still inconsistent: a deficit of three tenths of a second to the Q2 cutoff in the sprint qualifying was followed on Saturday by a severe setback with a full 1.7 seconds gap. In the races themselves, however, Sergio Perez was able to challenge the midfield at times and crossed the finish line in 15th and 13th places.

“We urgently need to find performance because we know Aston Martin will respond, and we don’t want to lose touch,” Perez explained afterwards. And Cadillac’s latest package proves that the American team is not wasting any time.

In Canada, the team is equipping the MAC-26 with, according to the official press release, “new front brake drums, modifications to the diffuser and additional winglets, as well as new front torsion bars that will improve the car’s behavior over the harsh curbs typical of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.”

With this, the team hopes to build on the Miami upgrade, “which has already led to a noticeable performance increase,” emphasized team principal Graeme Lowdon.

“Miami was a very pleasing weekend,” added Perez. “We had better pace from the start and proved that we are capable of bringing major upgrades that also work on track. That is really encouraging.”

“Now it’s about fine-tuning what we have and exploiting the true potential in all areas. There were definitely flashes of real progress, and we just have to bring it all together perfectly now. If we succeed, we will be much closer to the group ahead of us, I am sure of that.”
