“I know what we are working on until the break in August,” explains Vowles. “In the end, all of this should put us in a position where we score points every weekend.”

“Until then, we should gradually approach the perfect weekend, that is a points finish. We are not the fifth-best team, because currently that is Alpine. We still need to find a few tenths.”

Double points in Miami

In Miami, both Williams drivers were able to score points for the first time. After the forced break, the team brought a few upgrades, which among other things should make the FW48 somewhat lighter. Specifically, they prepared a new floor, some aerodynamic upgrades, and new fairings for the rear suspension. In the constructors’ championship, the team is currently in eighth place.

After the summer break, the FW48 is planned to be ten kilograms under the minimum weight. So far, the car has been considered one of the heavyweights in the field.

Since the start of the season, the team has struggled in terms of pace and, apart from the race weekend in Miami, has only scored points at the Chinese Grand Prix. There, Carlos Sainz secured ninth place.

Long dry spell for Williams

Most recently, Williams scored points with both cars in the main race at the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix. Quite surprising, considering the fifth place in the constructors’ championship the previous year.

But while Alexander Albon fell out of the spotlight race after race, Sainz was able to return towards the end of the season with two podium finishes. Accordingly, expectations were high for the traditional racing team before the season.

For the Canadian Grand Prix, Williams has a few updates again. Work is also being done on the weight of the dark blue car for the race weekend in Montreal. Additionally, there is an attempt to preempt potential updates from Audi and Haas. Both teams are in the mid-to-backfield in a direct fight with Williams.
