Now the Australian speaks about shocking details surrounding his last appearance in the premier class to date.

“I received serious death threats for this Grand Prix. It was said that I would be killed here if I wasn’t out of the car by then,” says the then Alpine driver in the eighth season of the Netflix series Drive to Survive, which will be available from Friday.

What he describes goes far beyond usual fan emotions. “I received six or seven emails saying that all my limbs would be cut off if I was still in the car in Miami. On Wednesday I was there with my girlfriend and my trainer, and three armed men surrounded me.”
“I had to call the police escort so they could get the situation under control.” The violent threats, which apparently came mainly from the camp of Argentine Colapinto fans, did not remain without consequences. Both Alpine and Formula 1 itself and the organizer of the Miami Grand Prix took appropriate measures.

Jack Doohan: Formula 1 dream becomes a nightmare
“The safety of all employees, including the drivers, is the highest priority and is taken very seriously by the team at all events,” an Alpine spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic. The Australian received special police protection throughout the entire weekend.
The dream of the premier class thus became a nightmare for Doohan. “I couldn’t enjoy being a Formula 1 driver, which I had dreamed of for so long,” the 23-year-old, who competed in only seven Formula 1 races in total, says clearly. “Yeah, it’s pretty shitty.”
The chapter with Alpine is finally over for Doohan, who most recently was still part of the team as a reserve driver, since the beginning of this year. What’s next for the Australian, who completed a curious test in the Japanese Super Formula series last year, is currently unknown. He is currently active as a reserve driver at Haas.
