(Motorsport-Total.com) – Is former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner returning to Formula 1 after a year-long break? Speculation about such a comeback has been abundant in recent times. Now the British Daily Mail introduces a new possibility: Aston Martin is said to have made Horner a concrete offer.

However, a confirmation is still pending: Horner has not commented, nor has Aston Martin. The team only stated that they generally do not comment on speculation – a standard phrase that neither confirms nor denies.
The topic is not new: Already in autumn 2025, there was discussion in Formula 1 about a possible Horner move to Aston Martin. At the Singapore press conference, then Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell dismissed all questions on the matter but remained vague in his statements. Shortly thereafter, Cowell lost his job, but Horner was not appointed as team principal; instead, Adrian Newey took over.
Elsewhere, Horner has also remained out of the picture: Ferrari did not bring him in as team principal to Maranello, nor did he join Alpine as team principal and investor. Exploratory talks with the Chinese manufacturer BYD about a possible Formula 1 entry have also yielded no results for him so far.

At least Horner appeared again in the Formula 1 paddock for the first time since his Red Bull departure at the 2026 British Grand Prix in Silverstone. And he repeatedly emphasized that he has not yet closed the chapter on motorsport’s “king class”.

Why Aston Martin might need someone like Horner is obvious: The Formula 1 team is clearly falling short of its own expectations: Instead of fighting for podiums under the new technical regulations introduced for the 2026 season, Aston Martin is currently even being overtaken by newcomer Cadillac.
Horner, in turn, knows what it takes to achieve long-term success in Formula 1: As team principal, he led the development of the Red Bull racing team and guided it with Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen in two phases to four consecutive world championships each. After almost exactly 20 years at Red Bull, Horner had to leave in summer 2025.
