(Motorsport-Total.com) – With an operating profit of 6.7 million euros on a turnover of 191.7 million euros, the FIA, the world governing body for motorsport, closed the 2025 financial year with a substantial surplus. The profit increased by a hefty 43 percent compared to the previous year. This economic success is partly attributed to the austerity measures implemented by FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem.

It is the strongest operating result of the association in ten years. Since 2021, the strategy within the FIA has been adjusted to better position itself economically for the future. This work seems to have borne its first mature fruits in 2025, after the FIA returned to profitability for the first time in 2024. In comparison: in 2021, an operating loss of 24 million euros was recorded.
But how did the FIA manage this? The operating cash flow rose to 53.7 million euros, while cash holdings at the end of the year doubled to 43.6 million euros. Additionally, there were no financial debts. This result could benefit motorsport in the future, but also general mobility.
Important Revenues from Motorsport
The surplus money could be invested in FIA championships, member clubs, employees, traffic safety, sustainability, and mobility programs. Some areas have already proven to be extremely profitable. These included the development of a new promoter process for the World Rally Championship (WRC) with improved commercial conditions, a strong performance of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), and the implementation of new regulations.
The long-term contract extension with the promoter of the Formula E World Championship, Formula E Holdings Limited, generated revenue of 20 million euros. In addition, new partners with global brands and technology experts contributed to the growth of overall revenue volume. These include companies such as DHL, Rolex, Hankook, AlphaTauri, Siemens, and Tomorrow.io.
Despite the austerity measures, more employees were permanently hired within the FIA in 2025. 308 permanent employees were counted, about 14 percent more than the previous year. This investment in know-how is expected to pay off further in the coming years. According to the FIA, they are the foundation to efficiently and economically implement all projects in the field of motorsport as well as mobility.
