(Motorsport-Total.com) – Formula 1 tire manufacturer Pirelli conducted a two-day test this week. Together with McLaren, Red Bull, and Audi, the Italians were on the Mugello race track to test the new tires for the 2027 season.

On Wednesday, Oscar Piastri was out in the McLaren and Liam Lawson in the Red Bull. The New Zealander had already replaced Red Bull regular driver Isack Hadjar at the Grand Prix in Zandvoort over the weekend, as he is currently sidelined with a hand injury.
The three hardest tire compounds, C1 to C3, were tested. Piastri completed a total of 93 laps, his fastest in 1:21.358 minutes. Lawson completed 116 laps, his personal best time at the end was 1:22.297.
However, the times are not comparable because both drivers followed different programs for Pirelli. For example, Lawson’s work focused on the C2 tire, while Piastri tested all three compounds.
On Thursday, world champion Lando Norris took over the McLaren, reserve driver Ayumu Iwasa the Red Bull, and Audi joined the test with Nico Hülkenberg. The focus of the test work on the second day was again on the three hardest tire compounds.

Pirelli again used different programs. While Iwasa was the only driver to test all three compounds, Norris exclusively tried various C2 prototypes. Hülkenberg’s program was split between the C2 and C3.
The fastest man on Thursday was Norris (115 laps) with a 1:21.899. Hülkenberg completed the most laps (121) and a personal best time of 1:24.012, while Iwasa completed 117 laps, the fastest of which was 1:23.414.
All three teams covered a total of 2,948 kilometers over both days. The next Pirelli test is scheduled for September 15 and 16 in Imola, then with Ferrari and the Racing Bulls.
