(Motorsport-Total.com) – Sergio Perez has revealed that his management has held talks with other Formula 1 teams about a potential move for 2027. However, he wants to remain part of Cadillac to continue pushing the team forward.

According to rumors, Perez’s management was in negotiations with Williams regarding a cockpit, in case Carlos Sainz had decided to leave. However, Sainz subsequently signed a multi-year contract extension with the Grove-based team, closing that door.
Additionally, the Mexican driver was linked with teams like Alpine. However, the Enstone outfit will stick with Franco Colapinto for 2027, as the Argentine’s performance has steadily improved throughout his first full year.
Perez: “I see this as my project”
In any case, the Mexican driver emphasizes in the Beyond the Grid podcast that he is fully committed to the Cadillac project and wants to continue shaping the growth of the American racing team beyond its debut season.
“Nothing has changed for me. Of course, we had talks with other teams, and here and there a few teams inquired and such things, but absolutely nothing has changed for me,” he says. “I see this as my project and I want to be part of Cadillac. I really believe in it.”

“I don’t think this is a one-year project. This is a long-term project that I want to be involved in. Of course, there will be more talks, but this is the place where I want to be – and from my side, nothing has changed,” he emphasizes.
Perez adds that he wants to see progress in the team and is curious about what impulses the new team principal Marcin Budkowski will set. Budkowski took over from Graeme Lowdon after Cadillac parted ways with him during the summer break.

Some areas to work on at Cadillac
When asked what Cadillac needs to do to improve, Perez explains that it is not just about pure performance, but also about how the team operates – for example, managing pit stops, strategy, and other procedures of the trackside crew.
“I want to see more progress and for us to close the gap to the teams ahead. At the moment, I don’t even know exactly who is ahead of us – whether it’s Williams, Aston Martin also seems to have slipped into the midfield – so that we can battle more with them in races.”
“Closing that gap will allow us to start next year in a much better condition,” says Perez. “And that’s exactly what I want to see. Of course, I look forward to working with Marcin and experiencing his leadership style.”
“I believe there is still a huge amount of room for improvement. Not just in performance, but also operationally: in pit stops, strategy, tires. There is so much – we’ve only completed the eleventh race in our history. So there are many levers to pull.”
“But I want to see significantly more progress. If we reduce the deficit, that will give us a huge boost for the start of next year.”
