The new showpiece of Formula 1: Las Vegas extends until 2037!

(Motorsport-Total.com) – The Las Vegas Grand Prix is here to stay. What began in 2023 as a project originally only running for three years is now also going the way of many other races and will remain a long-term part of the Formula 1 calendar. This is because the contract with Las Vegas was prematurely extended by ten years until 2037.

“We are delighted that Formula 1 will be racing in Las Vegas for many years to come,” says Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali. “Since its debut in 2023, the event has been exceptional and has quickly established itself as a premier destination for great racing, world-class entertainment, global business leaders, as well as top celebrities and influencers.”

With the aim of expanding its presence in the USA, Formula 1 returned to Nevada for the first time in 2023 for an initial three-year contract, which was later extended by two further editions on the Las Vegas Strip.

However, F1 management, acting as both commercial rights holder and promoter for this event, was keen to secure a long-term contract to solidify the event as one of its new flagships on the calendar.

Domenicali: Las Vegas “Cornerstone” of US Presence

“We have always been convinced that Las Vegas would become a cornerstone of our presence in the United States, and this extension, along with the success of recent years, underscores our long-term commitment to this important market,” emphasizes Domenicali.

“I would like to thank the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Clark County, and the LVCVA (Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority; Editor’s note) for their continued support, passion, and vision. The future is incredibly exciting, and we look forward to taking this event to even greater heights.”

Steve Hill, President and CEO of the LVCVA, says: “The extension of our partnership with Formula 1 for the next decade is a significant moment for both Las Vegas and the Grand Prix. In just three years, the race has evolved into a global showcase event, placing Las Vegas at the center of culture, competition, and entertainment during race week.”

“As the world’s spotlight is on Las Vegas, the event continues to underscore our evolution into a leading sports and entertainment destination. Las Vegas is built for spectacle and designed to host the world’s biggest moments. We are proud to continue this dynamic partnership with Formula 1 for the next decade and beyond.”

With its extension until 2037, Las Vegas now holds the third-longest contract of all current Formula 1 tracks, after Miami and Spielberg, both of which are tied until 2041.

Difficult Beginning

Initially, the event faced some difficulties. The first edition, in particular, made negative headlines with the loose manhole cover that Carlos Sainz drove over, and the practice session in the middle of the night in front of empty grandstands because security had finished their shift. Additionally, residents were upset about the road closures.

However, the event drastically improved in subsequent years and quickly established itself as one of Formula 1’s most important races, both from a commercial and business perspective.

Official sources state that the event alone generated $43 million in state and local tax revenue in 2025, of which $15 million was allocated to support local educational initiatives. Over its entire duration, the event is said to have generated a cumulative economic impact of $3.2 billion for the Southern Nevada region.

The 6.2 km long street circuit, where the race is held at the end of November, was also praised for its sporting spectacle and was the scene of Max Verstappen’s celebrations for his fourth world title in 2024.
