(Motorsport-Total.com) – Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has described championship leader Kimi Antonelli as a “real asset” for motorsport’s “king class.” “Truly remarkable” about Antonelli is his “great openness” and how he interacts with other people, Domenicali said in a press conference.

“Kimi brings fresh air with his style. He has also proven how strong he is in sports. He is a completely different type, but extremely focused,” Domenicali explained.
Indeed, Antonelli has so far managed to withstand the increasing pressure in the 2026 Formula 1 season. And at only 19 years old and in his second year in the championship. This earns admiration from the series chief.
“Last year, Kimi had to endure a lot of criticism. But Toto Wolff and the team [Mercedes] have, in my view, protected him excellently,” Domenicali said.
“One must not forget either: Without the two retirements due to technical defects [in Barcelona and Silverstone], his lead in the world championship would be even greater. That shows how consistent and solid he has been so far. He is one of the most exciting talents in the current Formula 1.”
