The Ferrari driver reveals that he had been trying for years to get his mother to accompany him to the racetrack more often. But for a long time, she avoided traveling and practically only came to Silverstone.
In fact, Hamilton wanted to take his mother to Canada last year. He especially wanted to show her places like Lake Louise. But that initially did not happen.
“There were always excuses,” Hamilton says laughing. It was only at the end of last year that his mother finally promised: “Next year I will travel with you.” And she apparently kept that promise immediately.
China became the turning point
The first trip together took Hamilton and his mother to China – and it was apparently there that many things changed. “Honestly, it was the best time we’ve ever had together,” says Hamilton. It was especially important that his mother could get to know his new environment at Ferrari.
The team welcomed her warmly right away. Hamilton describes how comfortable she felt in the Italian environment – including good food and close involvement in team life. These experiences apparently made her want more.

“I just want to spend time with you”
Hamilton’s joy was all the greater when his mother finally asked if she could also come to Montreal. “I immediately said: Absolutely,” he says. Canada is perfectly suited for that. Hamilton raves about the atmosphere in Montreal, the restaurants, and the special mood during the race weekend.
But what touched him most was something else: When he asked his mother if she wanted to bring a friend, she declined. “No, I just want to spend time with you.”
Family closeness changes the race weekend
Hamilton makes it clear how important family support has become to him – especially in a Formula 1 world characterized by constant travel and enormous pressure. “It definitely makes a difference for your weekend when your family is there,” explains the Brit.
The drivers are practically on the road all year and often see their relatives only rarely. All the more valuable are shared moments at the racetrack. That is why he currently especially enjoys the time with his mother.
The Ferrari star now apparently hopes that Canada will not be the last Grand Prix together. After the positive experiences in China and Montreal, he wishes that his mother will accompany him more often in the future.
