The Brit was seen pushing the historic vehicle together with his partner Carmen Montero Mundt. Footage of the scene quickly spread on social media, where numerous fans reacted to the incident, jokingly referring to Russell’s season so far.
Fans take the breakdown with humor
A user comments on Reddit: “Whoever Kimi paid to stop George from winning the championship is taking their job very seriously.”
Another writes: “Georgie just can’t catch a break.” Another user posts: “I know Kimi is behind this, I just can’t prove it.”
The following comment was also read: “George is the kind of guy who uses up his bad luck in another car so they have good luck again on the race weekend. Leclerc Style.” Other reactions also included this statement: “Just get this breakdown over with now. The weekend will be good. Everything will be fine.”

Setbacks after a strong start to the season
Russell had a strong start to the 2026 Formula 1 season, winning both the Australian Grand Prix and the sprint race in China. Since then, however, his season has been accompanied by various setbacks:
In China, his qualifying was affected by several technical problems. In Japan, his race strategy was complicated after he pitted shortly before a safety car phase. At the Canadian Grand Prix, he had to retire from the lead due to battery overheating and end the race prematurely.
Antonelli, on the other hand, won all of Russell’s “breakdown Grand Prix”. The 19-year-old Italian won in China, Japan, Miami, and most recently in Canada. This puts Russell 43 points behind Antonelli in second place in the drivers’ standings before the Monaco Grand Prix.
