Fastest lap

He didn’t win the race yesterday, the fastest man was again the world championship leader Kimi Antonelli – at least for one lap.

The Italian already set the fastest lap in ?-sterreich for the fifth time this year. Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and Max Verstappen each have one.

Here is his fastest race lap in Spielberg again in the video:

“Headache” for Leclerc?

The Monegasque finished behind Lewis Hamilton for the fifth race in a row yesterday. The last time Leclerc saw the checkered flag ahead of his teammate was in Suzuka. That was three months ago now.

“That’s working on him,” believes expert Timo Glock, who explains on Sky: “He’s trying to understand why it is like this. He said he lacks the last bit of confidence in the car and that the aggression he usually manages in Q3 no longer works.”

Stella: Mercedes is not done yet

Mercedes won seven of the first eight races of the season. Still, Andrea Stella does not believe the world championship is already decided. The McLaren team principal explains: “From a chassis perspective, Mercedes started the season with a decent lead.”

But since then, the Silver Arrows have also brought a bigger upgrade. He therefore suspects: “If Mercedes had come here [to ?-sterreich] with the Melbourne car, they probably would have lost the race today, and we would have had a new winner.”

“Even for Mercedes, it is a development race,” he emphasizes and explains: “If they don’t further develop their car with another extensive upgrade, I wouldn’t be surprised if another team has the fastest car in the second half of the season.”

That means: Mercedes must not slack off, otherwise the lead will quickly be used up. The close race against Verstappen yesterday already showed that.
