(Motorsport-Total.com) – The new Cadillac team principal Marcin Budkowski and Dan Towriss, managing director of the project, have commented on the rumors about Sergio Perez’s future in the team. Previously, during the summer break, there were reports about a possible move of the Mexican to Williams.

In his first official statements after taking overall responsibility for the team, Budkowski emphasizes the strategic role Perez plays in the project, which is still in the consolidation phase in the pinnacle of motorsport and for which Perez was selected as the first driver.
The new team principal makes it clear that the experience of Perez and his teammate Valtteri Bottas is crucial for a new team like Cadillac. “Checo has been a great asset to the team, and that applies to both drivers, to be honest,” says Budkowski.
“There has been a lot of talk about signing two very experienced drivers. However, I think it is crucial for a young team like this to be able to rely on this experience and stability. When a driver is learning and at the same time the whole team is learning, that is too many variables,” he explains.
“That is why I think it is important to have a driver like Checo on board,” says Budkowski. In this context, the new team principal also highlights the high standards Perez brings to development work at every race weekend.
The contract durations of current Formula 1 drivers
He makes it clear that a driver like Perez is extremely helpful in achieving the goal of establishing a foothold in the midfield of Formula 1. “From everything I know, and based on the conversations I have had with Dan, but also with other people from the team, he not only drives exceptionally well but also drives the team very, very strongly behind the scenes.”

“That is to be expected from a driver like him, who has worked for years at Red Bull and with the best. I think that is exactly the attitude we want, and that is exactly the attitude I will bring. That is why I am sure that we will be completely aligned in mindset and drive,” says Budkowski.
Towriss rejects Williams rumors
Dan Towriss confirms the position represented by Budkowski and at the same time rejects all speculation about a possible move of the Mexican driver to Williams. “I want to emphasize everything Marcin has said,” he stresses.
“Checo has been an enormous asset to the team. He has driven very well and has undoubtedly driven the team strongly,” explains Towriss, who also emphasizes: “I am very confident that Checo will stay at Cadillac.”
“The Williams rumors do not distract us for even a second,” he makes clear and adds: “We are very confident about our collaboration, and I am convinced that he will continue to be seen in the Cadillac Formula 1 car.”
