(Motorsport-Total.com) – Before Cadillac’s Formula 1 adventure began, Colton Herta was actually considered a future Formula 1 driver, but because the American is currently not delivering the desired performances in Formula 2, the former IndyCar driver has been somewhat quiet in recent weeks.

Instead, a new name has emerged with Ferrari junior Rafael Camara, who could replace one of the two regular drivers in 2027 – Valtteri Bottas or Sergio Perez. Reports flared up in Hungary that Cadillac has the reigning Formula 3 champion on its list and is closely watching him. However, Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss denies this – for now!
“We have two experienced drivers with whom we are very satisfied, who drive the team, and we will continue to challenge them,” he emphasized at a press conference on the occasion of the team principal change from Graeme Lowdon to Marcin Budkowski.
“I know there are some rumors out there about certain young drivers,” he continued. “They are unfounded, so that’s not something I would focus on. We are not focusing on that at the moment.”
Nevertheless, signing a younger driver who could push the team forward is “definitely something we are thinking about.” Towriss further emphasizes that the current driver pairing is not set in stone, even though there are no concrete plans for a change yet: “At the moment, no changes are planned for ’27, but things can always change.”

A signing of Camara could make sense for Cadillac. Because the racing team currently runs with Ferrari engines in Formula 1 and could possibly get a discount or deepen the relationship in another way by employing a young driver from the Scuderia.
Ferrari had done something similar in recent years with Sauber or Haas.
As the reigning Formula 3 champion, Camara has impressed so far in his Formula 2 debut season. The Invicta driver secured four of the last six pole positions, won two races, and currently ranks third in the drivers’ standings – 22 points behind the leader Nikola Tsolov.
Colton Herta, meanwhile, is only in 16th place overall, with a fifth place in the Barcelona sprint as his best result.
